NThank you @telegraphbeauty @soniaharia for including me in your feature supporting the beauty industry and for shining a light on our plight. 🙏🏽 Beauty pro’s post your pic and #whycantiwork
I actually understand the govt’s concerns about opening beauty salons safely and even why they allowed hair salons to open and not us. I get that beauty is more diverse and riskier because we are often face-to-face or face-over-face.
However when the govt decided to open pubs & bars and not beauty it was like we had not been given equal thought or regard. How is a group trip to a pub with no ppe deemed safer or more essential than a 1-1 visit to a controlled salon environment with ppe ? ... for services you often can’t do for yourself at home unlike eating and drinking?
I work in premises licensed for clinical treatments and am used to performing treatments wearing ppe. My staff and I are trained in health & hygiene to the highest level and we know how to protect ourselves and our clients from cross contamination, bloodborne and airborne viruses and we can work in a controlled environment on 1-1 basis.
I know we aren’t seen as essential but I think it is clear that we are to a lot of people for confidence and wellbeing. Hair&beauty have been one of the biggest talking points during lockdown but is being laughed about in parliament. 🙄
I am grateful for the govt financial support and grant .. without furlough my staff would have lost their jobs .. but we still have many bills to cover as well as all of the payments that are on hold. We generate billions for the economy If we stay closed for much longer I am worried many of us won’t be able to recover the losses and make enough to pay back loans and delayed payments especially running at a reduced capacity w higher costs. I also worry how I will get my team back into work and motivate them after 4mnth being paid to not work.
The wait list of appointments isn’t even reassuring now as it has become an overwhelming list of disappointed clients who have to wait even longer to be seen. After nearly 30 yrs in the industry (and like many other beauty biz owners ) i really don’t know if I can face the struggle of rebuilding ...
